PH #21 - art (for some requests), fic, meta - Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis x2, Realm of the Elderlings - Robin Hobb, Temeraire - Naomi Novik

Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
WB: Rules of succession (Narnia – Lewis), Original ruler(s) of Narnia (Narnia - Lewis), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

How are the laws of succession written in a country where some big cat can just come in at any moment and say ”This one should be the king/queen.”? Is there an Aslan clause? If you want to write more of an actual story it would be interesting to hear about someone else raised to the throne by Aslan. Or not raised because of him choosing someone else. Maybe there is a mandatory waiting period before you can be crowned, just in case? Have there ever been non-human rulers? If they couldn’t be called king/queen, what were they officially? If you want to write meta you don’t have to include any characters at all, I just didn’t request ”Any or No Characters” here because I was not as interested in seeing this from a canon character’s point of view.

DNW:parental death (mentioning it is fine, if the story needs it, but don't focus on it), AU:s other than canon divergent ones, scat, watersports, medical kink, daddy/mommy kink, dental trauma, explicit sexual content involving animals (talking or otherwise, any humanoid creatures such as centaurs and fauns are fair game though.)

Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
WB: The aftermath of the Pevensies leaving for the first time (Narnia - Lewis), WB: Romantic or sexual relationships between humans and non-humans (Narnia – Lewis), Any or No Characters (Narnia - Lewis), Original Character(s) (Narnia - Lewis), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

The disappearance of all members of the royal house at once must have left Narnia in chaos. How did they choose a new ruler? (This could be combined with the previous request, if you like.) How long did they wait for the Pevensies to return before even starting to think about it, much less do anything concrete? I’d be equally interested in a historical account of the main events of political and societal interest at this time, or a more personal narrative, maybe one of the courtiers searching in vain and refusing to give up hope (or sinking into despair).

When there were only a few humans in Narnia they married dryads and wood gods and creatures of that ilk. Were those the only acceptable options? And later on when there were more humans was it still ok to marry non-humans? Did anyone ever fall in love with a centaur, or a faun or even a talking beast (they are very much sapient after all)? And would such a relationship have been accepted or frowned upon or outright banned? Following the Telmarine conquest some dwarfs did marry humans, but was it common at any other time? And did they ever tell those humans the truth?

DNW:parental death (mentioning it is fine, if the story needs it, but don't focus on it), AU:s other than canon divergent ones, scat, watersports, medical kink, daddy/mommy kink, dental trauma, explicit sexual content involving animals (talking or otherwise, any humanoid creatures such as centaurs and fauns are fair game though.)

Realm of the Elderlings - Robin Hobb
WB: Daily life in an elderling city before the cataclysm (Realm of the Elderlings), WB: Being chosen by a dragon in the old days (Realm of the Elderlings), Original elderling character(s) (Realm of the Elderlings), Any or No Characters (Realm of the Elderlings - Robin Hobb), Fanart, Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

Tell me about a craftsperson, or a politician, or an artist. Describe a day at the market, or a festival, or a trade negotiation. Did dragons actually disturb the goings on, or had the people been able to organise everything so that the city ran smoothly, no matter what they got in their heads to do? If you want to go into all the ways skill (and other magics?) were deployed, that would be great. But I’m equally interested in the mundane details of living amongst such wonders. :)

Being chosen by a dragon was a great honor and a privilege. You had to work for it. (Or did you always? Dragons are capricious creatures, one might just suddenly have taken a liking to a random human and you don’t really say no to a dragon…) Were there rituals for officially becoming an elderling? They must have had their own society, inside the general one. How welcoming was it? Did they give tips on managing your dragon, or support while undergoing changes? In the books we never really see the whole process of being shaped by a dragon from the point of view of someone who understands and actively wants what is happening. Did those people still feel frightened at times or was it pure elation? Was it customary for the dragon to consult the human, or did they just do whatever they liked?

Artwise, I’d love to see an elderling city in all its glory. Either from far away or focused on a street, a shop, a person going about their daily tasks. For the other tag, show me the dragon and their elderling bonding, or doing something together, or the changes happening. Or if you think there is some sort of a ceremony for being chosen, that could easily combine both my tags.

Temeraire - Naomi Novik
WB: Scandinavian dragons (Temeraire), WB: The effect of dragons on viking raids (Temeraire), Any or No Characters (Temeraire), Original Character(s) (Temeraire), Fanart, Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

I just suddenly got this craving for viking dragons. I mean, they are a big part of Norse lore and aesthetics, with the dragon ships and carvings on runestones and so on. They should exist, if all the other dragons are real. Lindorms are mentioned in the books, but nothing is really known about them so you are pretty much free to imagine them however you like. Or other breeds of northern dragons.

Since the British Isles and their culture are pretty similar to how it was in the real world at the time, the Norse influence on the language, customs and everything must have been there. So they did raid, or at least trade and settle down in some way. Maybe they ”tamed” dragons before the British did and that was a factor in their success?

Write me an account of the history of these raids, or part of a saga featuring dragons. Or a story of someone ”captaining” a scandinavian dragon. Maybe dragons actually didn’t fight in Scandinavia and stayed home to help with farming? They might have been very useful as transport in the Norwegian fjords, for example.

When it comes to art, a naturalist's illustration of nordic breed(s) would be great. Or a battle scene, warriors riding a dragon to battle. Maybe an artist carving the image of a dragon while looking at the real thing?

DNW:parental death (mentioning it is fine, if the story needs it, but don't focus on it), AU:s other than canon divergent ones, scat, watersports, medical kink, daddy/mommy kink, dental trauma, explicit sexual content involving animals (talking or otherwise, any humanoid creatures such as centaurs and fauns are fair game though.)

Now You See Me (Movies)
WB: The Eye (NYSM), Dylan Rhodes (NYSM), Thaddeus Bradley (NYSM), Any or No Characters (Now You See Me (Movies)), Original Character(s) (Now You See Me (Movies)), Fanfiction, In-Universe Meta

Likes: h/c, violence, stoic injured characters, action/mysteries/casefic, reunions, competency, catharsis, outsider POV, manhandling, spirits/ghosts/hauntings, corruption, apocalypses, weird cults, haunted asylums, nature run amok, in-universe documents

DNWs: setting AUs (anything that alters the setting or premise), incest, underage explicit sex (<18), pregnancy, 2nd person (unless it's for an unusual format), soulbonds/soulmates, omegaverse, formalized BDSM/kink negotiation/"master" or "sir" language, sexual humiliation, breathplay/drowning/suffocation, suicide (unless it's self-sacrifice to save someone/for the greater good), the POV of a character as they die, neediness/insecurity, unrequested identity headcanons

I love everything about the crazy world of stage magic/maybe real magic these movies built toward. Who the hell are the Eye and what do they do? What does real magic look like in this world?

- The perspective of the Eye during the two movies. Thaddeus going along with going to jail, even while secretly running everything.

- Post-films, Rhodes takes over the Eye, with the Horsemen acting on its behalf. What kinds of escapades do they get up to? Who does Rhodes select as his successor?

- Other time periods with the Eye: What was the Eye doing when Shrike died? How did Thaddeus come to be in charge? (FWIW, I ship Thaddeus/Lionel.)

Feel free to crossover other MCU characters if you like.

- What was it like living in NYC during the Blip? All we know from canon are a few shots of the city looking pretty desolate and Steve running a support group. What was it like for random New Yorkers? What was it like for the Defenders? Who lived and who turned to dust? Any imagery of the Blip happening or its aftermath would be awesome.

- The various Defenders shows look at different kinds of crime in the city. What happens to the criminal underworld when 50% of people are gone? Who’s in charge? Who’s fighting against them?

After the events of Endgame, there now exists a timeline where, from 2014 onwards, Thanos is gone (along with Gamora and Nebula). I am deeply fascinated by this new timeline.

- How do things play out differently without the threat of Thanos and the events of Infinity War? Tony, Nat, and Vision don’t die, Steve doesn’t go back in time (do they figure out time travel at all?). What are things like with them still around? Does Carol ever come back to Earth? Do the Skrull? Do the Guardians even come together without Gamora? What happens to the Asgardians if their ship isn’t attacked and Heimdall and Loki live?

The Full Moon Party at Kamar-Taj! What could have been so out there that Strange would make everyone forget it (with the implication that they chose that), while he alone remembers? I’m fine if this goes in a shippy direction for Strange/Wong, but if so, I can’t imagine it would have been just the two of them. Was it a giant sorcerer orgy? That feels too tame. It does remind me of the magic orgy on Dirk Gently (TV) though, so if you’ve ever wanted to try an MCU/Dirk Gently magic crossover, feel free!

I just want to know what was actually going on. What is Dirk’s real role/power (“debug function of reality?”)? Is the world spinning out of control and these random people with powers the only ones who can stop it? What’s the intended role of someone like Bart or Mona? Are they really part of some larger whole or is all of this more chaotic than we see?

General likes:
I moved my list of general likes HERE because my sign-up got too long. :)

Additional fandom-specific likes:
Pre-Apocalypse Public Opinion on Becca and Her Inventions - It's always been my favorite thing about the entire show, and we got a lot of it in the last season, but I'd still love more. :D Anything about Becca being a celebrity, and what it entailed, would be amazing. Or anything about Callie idolizing her and/or about Bill having an interest in her. What did regular people really know about her inventions (other than "it's some fancy science and tech I don't understand")? What did they think? Did anyone suspect that her inventions might cause the end of the world?
A.L.I.E.'s AI Thought Processes - Just this, what and how exactly does she think? At any point(s) in canon.
The Flame - I'm especially interested in Becca and other early commanders "being" in The Flame and being treated like religious figures by later commanders, the actual truth about them gradually becoming distorted and disappearing. What does it feel like to access another "person" inside your head? I'm really fond of Madi's connection to Becca (and to the images in the Flame in general, since Madi has a very unique perspective thanks to knowing what it actually is), but anyone accessing anyone through the Flame would be great.
The Anomaly Stones - Who created them? Was is the Judge, or someone else entirely? Why are the Stones both a transportation device and a way to take the test? Are these functions related or unrelated? If someone else created the Stones, did they just accidentally discover/dial the sequence to reach The Judge and then muted this sequence so that no one does it again (since it's the symbols that make no sound, when you have a way to hear them)? And why is hearing the sounds the symbols make impossible for a regular human? Is "the Light" in any way related to City of Light? Did A.L.I.E. find the Stone and use some of its coding (or just the general idea) to create City of Light?

Common squicks I'm okay with:
✓ gore and graphic depictions of violence
✓ body horror and any horror in general
✓ self-harm
✓ major character death
✓ humiliation, "cringe"
✓ spiders, insects, any creepy animals/creatures/monsters
✓ pretty much everything that is not a DNW or edging close to a DNW

General dislikes (DNW):
Ø any romance
Ø any smut/shipping-adjacent sexual content regardless of consent level or rating (mentions or focus on canon sexual trauma or abuse are okay and welcome)
Ø any kink
Ø someone being taken care of by another person (grooming, feeding, etc.)
Ø physical illness/sickness, ranging from common cold to cancer, including fictional ones (physical infections that only cause mental or behavioral symptoms are okay; injuries and non-illness types of disabilities are okay, but still please no caretaking)
Ø unresolved mind control or possession (resolved by the end of the story is okay; aftermath is okay and something I'm very interested in)
Ø soulmates, soulmarks, soulbonds (even platonic)
Ø possessiveness portrayed as positive
Ø violating consent and freedom portrayed as positive when it's "not a big deal" or "for someone's own good", also in a non-sexual context, also when it applies to children (convincing someone to do things they don't like, "playfully" tickling when someone says no, intentionally limiting someone's choices, "grounding", etc.)
Ø self-sacrifice and self-denial portrayed as positive
Ø parents' POV on a parent-child relationship
Ø non-canon pregnancy and childbirth
Ø any AU that completely changes characters' backstories
Ø violent or otherwise graphic death of pets, especially cats (death of old age is okay; violent or graphic death of other animals is okay, especially ones that are hunted for food)

Additional fandom-specific dislikes (DNW):
Ø any mentions of Aurora Blake
Ø the relationships between Clarke & Madi and between Bellamy & Octavia portrayed as healthy (not a DNW when portrayed as dysfunctional/kinda fucked up, but you can also just ignore these relationship altogether)

Additional fandom-specific likes:
I know this exchange ends exactly when S2 start airing, and work reveals are a day after the premiere, so I want to reassure you that you really don't need to include any information from S2! :) A fic/meta based entirely on what we know from S1 would be amazing (unless there's some S2 spoiler or speculation you personally really want to include, then it's totally okay too)!
Lottie's Clairvoyance - Is it a mental illness or is it supernatural? Or is it both? Were there any other clairvoyance events in Lottie's life pre-crash, before or after the car accident? Did her medication actually keep it at bay? Is she off her meds in the present (her parents are possibly out of the picture) and that's why the cult is coming back? Or has the cult been a thing the entire time?
Taissa's Sleepwalking - Is it a trauma reaction, a different type mental illness, or supernatural? (I'm personally in favor of the trauma explanation here, but I'm okay with others, like maybe Lottie causing or affecting it in some way?) I would love some exploration of the beginnings of the sleepwalking (we seem to have seen the first instances with eating dirt and then with the wolves, but were these actually the first instances?). How long had it lasted before it went away post-crash, and why did it come back 20+ years later - was it just the election or something more, maybe related to Lottie's cult?
Drawing in Sammy's Room - I would love a breakdown of what exactly they mean and what is depicted in them, either one of them or a few of them, or all of them if you're feeling really ambitious. Also are they even drawn by Sammy or by "bad" Taissa? And if they're Sammy's, does it mean that Taissa tells him stories when she's sleepwalking, or did he find some terrifying crash-related information some other way (other people, media, supernatural means)?
The Man with No Eyes - Is he real or not? (Or was he real at some point in the past and how he's dead or otherwise gone, but people keep seeing him as a hallucination?) Is it some sort of generational trauma that causes both Taissa and her grandmother to see/hallucinate him, and what would the trauma be? What exactly does he symbolize for Taissa and/or her family? Or does he have his own agenda and they're his targets? Is he even related to the plane crash at all?
The Symbol - What does it mean, what does it depict, what does it do (if anything)? How old is it? Why was it in the wilderness before the crash - who used it and for what purpose?

Additional fandom-specific likes:
Origins of Being Able to Do Magic and Being a Magician - Why are some people able to do magic and others are not? Why are some people able to do magic but still aren't magicians, like what George Bush seems to be canonically? (Is this just a form of hedge-witch discrimination? Could everyone be a magician?) We know that "magic comes from pain" and can in some ways be triggered by trauma, but this can't be the only criteria because it would imply there's some system that objectively measures people's traumas and decides which ones are the worst, and can also say that some people are just not traumatized enough to have magic. How much is the ability to do magic genetic? Can it come from strongly believing in magic as a child, like Quentin and Julia did? Any other source?
any timeline other than 40 and 23 - I would especially love something that focuses entirely on a timeline we have zero information about, but timelines we have some information about (36, 17) are definitely okay too!
mental/emotional state of someone without a Shade - In addition to everything about this prompt that is already amazing (analysis of how it feels to not have a Shade from any Shadeless character's POV is something I would just LOVE to read), it allows for my pet theory/headcanon - was Marina expelled from Brakebills because she removed her Shade on purpose? The way it's framed by Fogg makes it sound like it was something that is both very difficult (needs a lot magical proficiency) and "evil" to do. And she does read like someone who is Shadeless. But of course you can focus on any other character - Quentin 23, Martin, Julia, Alice (since a Niffin automatically loses their Shade) or an AU/different timeline in which any other character loses or gets rid of their Shade.
Locations and Places in Fillory - I would love to see something from the Fillory books or an original location you came up with yourelf. Maybe Niffin!Alice's journey through Fillory and what she saw there. Or something cute and happy, where any character(s) find(s) a place that is just really nice and cozy. Or a magical place that fucks with your brain (in a horror way, or a self-discovery way, or both).
Incidents and Accidents While Learning Magic - I'm mostly going for humor and crack here, but there's definitely some angst potential too if that's more your thing. Either Brakebills or hedge witch magic would be awesome. Other than the nominated characters I especially see Todd here. :D

Additional fandom-specific likes:
Re: my physical illness/sickness DNW, it is okay to mention that Rukiya used to be sick, as long as it's very brief, not detailed, and completely in the past. It's also okay to just focus on her life with Debra and not mention it at all, of course.
Rukiya's Life with Debra - Anything about it would be awesome! What do they do, together or separately? Where do they live? Where and how do they travel, what do they see there and how do they experience it? How does it feel for Rukiya to not really be human anymore?
How Debra Perceives/Experiences the Universe/Time/People - Debra is this completely alien/not even close to human or humanoid entity, and I would love to see something from her POV about her experiences/feelings/thoughts about any thing/person/event you want to write about: canon, canon-divergent and completely original. Also, in particular, how does time work/feel for her?
The Elysian Kingdom - Either something about the book itself and its worldbuilding, or about the events of the episode would be amazing! (Or both!) The episode adventure took 5 hours and we only saw a relatively small part of it, so I would love to see what other characters were doing when they weren't currently on-screen. For example La'an after she no longer participated in the quest. But literally anyone, including minor or original characters, would be awesome! :) My favorite non-nominated character in this story is Hemmer.
La'an and Oriana's Journey - I would just love anything about it! The whole journey, or a tiny slice of life snippet of it, or anything in between. Their shared trauma, how it affects them, how they bond with each other. Maybe a moment of respite or even fun, or the opposite - the most difficult, scariest moment for one or both of them. Maybe something that happens to only one of them while the other one happens to be away. Original characters' outside POV would also be particularly interesting here.

Additional fandom-specific likes:
The Process of Choosing the Girls for the Experiment - Anything about this would be awesome, especially about the girls we haven't seen recruited on screen, especially about Martha and Toni (how was the trip even brought up and paid for without raising suspicions, since they're both poor and could never afford it? was Toni's family even involved or did Martha's family consent for both of them? was it maybe some kind of rigged contest they won?). Anything about the behind-the-scenes processes too! Were there other candidates and why did they end up not being chosen? What are the criteria in the first place, other than relative diversity? How does Gretchen manipulate the parents (other than Leah's) to get their consent? (In addition to Martha and Toni, I'm very curious about Shelby, since she said it would look good on her college application, but I'm having a hard time believing that her parents would agree to send her somewhere secular with a bunch of girls. Did Gretchen lie that it's a Christian camp, most likely a "corrective" one, and then the parents lied to Shelby?)
Gretchen's Backstory - Anything about what made her the person she is right now, especially if it's an early backstory that we never got in canon. Gretchen as a child, a teenager and/or a college student would be super interesting to see!
The Time When Seth Is in Charge of the Bunker - Or, what happens directly after S2? How does he use his power, and how do the other kids fight back? How long does Seth even stay in charge of the bunker, and what is his end? Does someone end up killing him (and who is, it and how)? Or does the experiment fall apart in some other way?
Integration Between the Girls' and Boys' Groups - What are the friendships/alliances/animosities that form between the girls and the boys? My favorite boys are Henry and Bo, and I'm fond of the idea of Martha & Josh friendship, but I would honestly love to see how anyone interacts with anyone! First meetings/conversations or a story set later when relationships between them are already established would be equally awesome. Also, does Josh tell any of the girls about what Seth did, either to protect them or so that they have additional motivation to take Seth down?

Post-GouSotsu | Furude Rika's travels - I'm requesting these even though I haven't finished Sotsu because I know I'm going to love these stories! I'm going to finish Sotsu in literally a couple of days - sign-ups are already closed then, but you definitely don't need to worry that I still haven't finished it when the works are revealed! :) I just can't give you any specific prompts for these two freeforms, but you can look at my general likes above if you need more info about what I would enjoy the most.
A day in Hinamizawa - This calls so much for a minor or original character's outside POV! Or just a day in the life of any nominated or non-nominated canon character(s), if you like this idea more. Something about the nature and beautiful views of Hinmizawa would be extra awesome, either in a straighforward, happy and calm way or a scary way (contrasting the beauty and the horror).
