Navigation: Nominations Rules | Tagset

Thanks for all the great nominations so far! We have some queries and corrections for you, but also some updates!

Updates and PSAs

Small rule update/clarification

We've added a small clarification to the nominations rules. We've had a few fandoms come in without any WB: tags, and fandoms without WB tags at nominations close will be removed from the tagset. WB: tags are required for matching, so you won't be able to complete a sign up without at least one in each fandom.

If you nominate relationships in the relationships slot, we just outright reject those by the way, so please don't do that.

Please don't nominate the "Any/No Characters" or "Original Character(s)" tags

We know many of you have nominated for the past rounds of WB Ex, and since we copied the old mod's rules and guidelines almost exactly we'd like to highlight one specific change we've made which is that no one should nominate Any/No Characters (Fandom) or Original Characters (Fandom) tags because we've figured out how to automate adding those to each fandom after nominations close. If you nominate either of these tags, you'll lose the slot when we reject the tag to prevent duplicates in the tagset.

(Note: you can still nominate more more specific OC tags if you'd like, EG Original Starfleet Captain)

AO3 is bullying us

You might have noticed that AO3 is a little shaky these last few days! It's slowing down tag approvals because we're getting a lot of long loading times and weird page errors, but we're still working away at it.

Slower tag approvals will also have an impact on nominations clarifications, by the way. If you've changed your nominated tags since your fandom last showed up in the tag back end, we won't have seen your change (apologies for querying something out of date!) and if you comment below to resolve a problem with one of your tags it might take awhile for us to dig your fandom back up to accept your tags.

Please add fandom name after your WB: tags

Adding a fandom name after your tag is known as "disambiguating" (you make the tag less ambiguous!) and we would like to ask everyone to please disambiguate their WB tags, especially the shorter and more general ones. Tags that are the exact same can't be in two different fandoms, so the only way for multiple fandoms to have tags like WB: Religion or WB: Marriage Traditions and so on is if each WB tag is slightly different...and of course the best way to do do that is to stick the fandom name on the end like WB: Religion (Sesame Street) or WB: Marriage Traditions (Dwarf Fortress).

If you have questions about any of this, let us know! We're happy to explain things, probably in much greater detail than you even wanted (this is not a threat) because AO3's exchange system is complicated and special.

Now on to the more specific comments!

Nominations Clarifications

Frontier Wolf - Rosemary Sutcliff

  • WB: Roman & Celtic relationships (Frontier Wolf) and WB: Votadini (Frontier Wolf) — These are both real-world things, such that a story fulfilling these tags would require research about the real world rather than worldbuilding about the world of the novel. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific Roman, Celt, and Votadini characters, or relationships involving the specific clan of Votadini from the novel, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding.
  • WB: marriage alliance (Frontier Wolf) — marriage alliances happen in the real world, and also this strikes us as more of a prompt than a request for worldbuilding, so we won't be able to accept it as-is. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding. To our recollection there is one brief mention of a marriage alliance between the Celt tribes in the book, so maybe a tag asking for worldbuilding about how those tribes joined together?

The Truce of the Games - Rosemary Sutcliff

  • All nominated WB: tags — All of the nominated WB: tags for this fandom are real things, such that a story fulfilling these tags would require research about the real world rather than worldbuilding about the world of the novel. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding.
  • WB: earthquake — Although we can't accept this tag as-is, we wonder if you mean to reference this passage in the book: "Nothing was allowed to stand in the way, earthquake or pestilence or even war—even the long and weary war which, after a year of uneasy peace, had broken out again last year between Athens and Sparta." If so, we would suggest a rephrasing along the lines of WB: natural disasters not standing in the way of the Olympic Games

Outcast - Rosemary Sutcliff

  • All nominated WB: tagsAllMost of the nominated WB: tags for this fandom are real things, such that a story fulfilling these tags would require research about the real world rather than worldbuilding about the world of the novel. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding. ETA: we erred in that Justinius's Swamp is fine, we'll accept that.

Swallows in the Spring - Rosemary Sutcliff

  • All nominated WB: tags — All of the nominated WB: tags for this fandom are real things, such that a story fulfilling these tags would require research about the real world rather than worldbuilding about the world of the novel. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding.
  • WB: Trauma and WB: Community — in addition to being things one could potentially do broad research about, these tags also strike us as more like themes than the specific, concrete worldbuilding tags we want in this exchange. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding.

Cozy Grove (Video Game)

  • WB: The Purges and/or the Pupilist Movement (Cozy Grove) — Nominator, unfortunately you're going to have to either pick just one of these or (if they're related in some way) rephrase the tag to include both. If the Pupilist Movement is the movement that cause or is the victim of The Purge, we're fine with WB: The Purges and the Pupilist Movement (Cozy Grove) ! We just can't accept a tag with and/or in it.

ER (TV 1994)

  • All nominated WB: tags — All of the nominated WB: tags for this fandom are real things, such that a story fulfilling these tags would require research about the real world rather than worldbuilding about the world of the novel. Please rephrase these so that they suggest a direction one could expand the canon universe in that wouldn't just be historical research. For example, referencing specific character backstories, referencing a fictional canonical location, or otherwise meeting this exchange's definition of worldbuilding.

Final Fantasy XIV

  • WB: Keeping Up With the Galvii (family drama) — Nominator, we're unsure that this qualifies as worldbuilding and cannot accept this tag as-is. Is there canonical family drama in the Galvii family that is hinted at or referenced but never explored? Filling in gaps in canon backstory falls under the 'worldbuilding' umbrella in this exchange, but we'll need a more specific, direct tag that indicates what part of the canon universe you want to see explored/expanded.

Beauty and the Beast - All Media Types

  • All tags — Nominator, do you really need/want All Media Types for this canon? Nominating under this canon would mean that you'd be open to setting, characterization, plot points, and etc from everything under the "subtags" section on this page plus any additional Beauty and the Beast adaptations that might not be on the archive yet. You also have a WB tag about stained glass windows in the Beast's castle which makes us think you might have a much more specific idea of what kind of B&B gift you'd like to receive/create than this tag implies.

The Elementalists (Visual Novel)

  • WB: Graduation and WB: Thief — We have no clue what these mean or what kind of worldbuilding they're meant to be asking for. Nominator, could you please elaborate? We can't accept as-is.

12 Monkeys (TV)

  • WB: post-series life — At first glance, this looks like a prompt for post-canon fanworks rather than a worldbuilding subject. Does something happen at the end of the series that results in a serious change to the setting? If so, it should be specifically mentioned in the tag

Winter’s Orbit - Everina Maxwell

  • WB: power difference between Iskat and thea and how it affects kiem and jainan (Winter's Orbit) — Although this tag does definitely ask for specific worldbuilding, it's unfortunately too specific because it veers into being a straight up fic prompt. We'd suggest selected Kiem and Jainan as characters and changing this nomination to WB: power difference between Iskat and Thea (Winter's Orbit).
  • WB: Thean culture or clan dynamics (Winter's Orbit) — We can't accept tags with "or" in them because it's too confusing, so you'll need to either pick one of these subjects or come up with a tag that relates them to each other. For example, WB: Clan dynamics in Thean culture (Winter's Orbit)
  • Sidenote: Please capitalize proper nouns in your nominations so we don't have to fix them

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Video Game)

  • For this fandom we are actually just looking to facilitate some coordination because we seem to have at least two nominators with similar tags. For each set of tags listed below, could the nominators chime in and let us know if the tags can or should be combined, or if the tags are different enough that they should all be in the tagset as-is?
  • WB: Origin (Xenoblade Chronicles 3) and WB: The Sword of Origin (Xenoblade Chronicles 3). and WB: Functioning of Origin (Xenoblade Chronicles 3). — Also, is the meaning of the first tag clear and unambiguous, or should it have extra information?
  • WB: Kevesi off-seeing traditions (Xenoblade Chronicles 3). and WB: Offseers and Offseeing (Xenoblade Chronicles 3)
  • WB: Gender and Sexuality (Xenoblade Chronicles 3). and WB: Gender Identity in Aionios (Xenoblade Chronicles 3)

Supernatural (TV 2005)

  • WB: The Cage (SPN) and WB: Lucifer's Cage (Supernatural) — We're pretty sure these are the same thing. Can the nominators confirm, and help us decide which tag to keep?

Dragon Age II

  • All tags — Nominator, would you be interested in combining with Dragon Age - All Media Types? We're happy either way, we just want to offer the option in case it will make offering or requesting easier for you.

Fear Street Trilogy (TV)

  • WB: The Goode family deal (Fear Street Trilogy) — would this be better phrased as WB: The Goode Family Deal With Satan? For clarity.

Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types

  • All tags — Nominator, would you be interested in combining with Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis? We're happy either way, we just want to offer the option in case it will make offering or requesting easier for you.
  • WB: stars — We're not 100% sure what you mean! Would a tag like WB: Narnian Stars (Narnia AMT) or WB: Narnian Sky and Astronomy (Narnia AMT) work? We're easily confused by vague tags, it's a weakness of ours.
  • Also, please remember to disambiguate your WB tags!

Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis

  • All tags — Nominator, would you be interested in combining with Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types? We're happy either way, we just want to offer the option in case it will make offering or requesting easier for you.

The Good Wife/Fight Universe (Robert & Michelle King)

  • Fandom tags don't need authors/show runners listed, so if/when you add WB: tags we'll accept this as The Good Wife/Fight Universe (TV)

The Good Wife (TV)

  • All tags — Nominator, would you be interested in combining with The Good Wife/Fight Universe (TV) since The Good Fight is a spinoff of The Good Wife? We're happy either way, we just want to offer the option in case it will make offering or requesting easier for you.

Fandoms nominated without WB tags

Every fandom needs WB tags because you won't be able to offer or request without them. Some of the fandoms listed here might have gained WB: tags since we last saw them in the tagset backend.

  • Run (TV 2020)
  • The Good Wife/Fight Universe (Robert & Michelle King)
  • Firefly (TV 2002)
  • Hunger Games Series AMT
  • Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer
  • Elemental Masters - Mercedes Lackey
  • Avadon
  • Exile | Avernum
  • Geneforge
  • 人渣反派自救系统 - 墨香铜臭 | The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
  • The Avengers (Marvel Movies)
  • Damar Series - Robin McKinley
  • Space Trilogy - CS Lewis
  • The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms
  • 蒼穹のファフナー | Fafner
